Donations Fuel Our Work

How We Use Donations

Our flagship accomplishment, and the one which "kicked off" the Friends of Gillette Castle State Park, is the restoration of the electric engine for the narrow-gauge train that used to traverse the grounds. The train is on display in the Visitor Center, adjacent to a room with a Friends-supported video presentation that describes the life of William Gillette, his impact in the theatrical world, and the lasting legacy of his Castle. The Friends have also played an important role in restoring and maintaining the park trails system. The oak bridge visible on the right as you drive into the Castle was installed with volunteer labor provided by the Friends of Gillette Castle. The Sherlock Holmes sign has been restored and now graces the Castle garden area.
